Planning the AC Purchase

Summer is not that far away and it is better to get ready for the purchase of a new air-conditioning unit now then to wait until Memorial Day. A smart shopper wants to make the best possible purchase and often the cheapest product on the shelf is not the best quality. There are some things the individual can think about as he or she gets ready to buy a new air conditioner.

Quality Ratings Matter

The quality of AC service in air-conditioning is measured by the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER). Both measure the British Thermal Unit (BTU) to the watt hours of energy consumed, but the SEER measures the cooling output during a cooling season. The industry sets standards for SEER and EER and the minimum for each is 13 and a range of 8.0 – 9.8 respectively. A buyer should know that these ratings are the floor and that higher rating for either category shows greater energy efficiency. That is important when one considers the long term cost of air conditioning. The units with the lower rating will cost more in monthly utility bills then ones that are rated higher.

Consider the Energy STAR Label

The air-conditioning products that have the ENERGY STAR label are set to a very high standard. For air-conditioning units, the SEER must be at 14.5 or higher and the EER can be no less than 12 (NB. These are for split systems. Single package equipment have slightly lower requirements but well above the industry standard). These have expectations mean that ENERGY STAR labeled products provide more energy-efficient AC service than other commercial brands. They may cost a little bit more, but these air-conditioning units will generate long-term savings in lower utility bills. Over the life of their use, these will consequently be a better bargain for shopper.

Maintaining Efficient Ducts

ducts

The US Department of Energy estimates that the typical duct system of a house will lose anywhere from 25 to 40% of either heating or cooling energy. Those statistics are more than just sobering. Many Phoenix, Arizona homeowners will invest a great deal of money in energy-efficient HVAC systems, but if the duct system is not working properly, any savings brought on by the energy efficiency is negated.

Suspect Areas

The energy loss primarily comes from leaks in the duct system. Small perforations or openings can cause warm or cool air to escape from the ducts. The leaks are in effect heating or cooling the atmosphere, and this also means that the central furnace has to expend even more energy to keep rooms at the desired temperature. The areas where there is potential for such problems include the attic or crawlspaces. The ducts ought to be inspected in those locations and the right type of sealant must be used to seal up any openings. Once that is done the ducts should be wrapped in sturdy insulation to prevent excess heat in the summer or winter cold.

Possible Health Hazard

While the level of risk may not be life-threatening, leaky ducts present an opportunity for lower pressure within the system and that can pull gases from the furnace. This includes carbon monoxide, which could circulate in the atmospheric especially around the furnace. There’s also the chance of radon gas leaking into the atmosphere through defective ducts. These possible health hazards are enough to warrant the ducts be inspected in an annual checkup.

If the owner does not feel confident inspecting the ducts or if he or she does not have the proper equipment, Air Care Phoenix HVAC contractor can provide the service necessary. These companies have trained technicians who inspect the ductwork thoroughly and will do maintenance. Investments in energy-efficient HVAC equipment is a good idea but the proper conditions for less use of energy need to be maintained. Routine checkups on the duct system will prevent leaks from creating higher utility bills.

Tips to Protection You from Being a Victim of Copper Theft

The increase in copper prices has caused a major issue for both Home and Business owners. Copper prices have been on the rise for the past few years which has caused an increase in copper theft. The easiest target for the copper thief is an outdoor air conditioning system.  May Home and Business owners may be surprised by how quickly copper thieves can dismantle an outdoor unit and steal the copper.  The Home and Business owners are faced paying the insurance deductible when copper theft occurs. There are a few things that homeowners and commercial buildings can do to reduce their risk of being victimized by copper thieves.

Ideas on how to protect the unit from Copper Theft

We suggests that AZ residential and commercial air conditioning customers install fencing to the surrounding area.  If fencing in not an option then we recommend putting outdoor lighting around their unit.  Motion sensor lights will deter most Thieves as they are less likely to target a home or business that is well lit to avoid getting caught red handed. Phoenix A/C Contractor also recommends placing a cage around the air conditioning unit to prevent copper theft.  The easiest way to put a stop to copper theft is to keep the air conditioning unit out of view.

What Is A Surge Protector?

We hear people talk about Surge Protectors, but do we know what they are?  More importantly what does a Surge Protector have to do with our Air Conditioning Systems and is it something you need to know about to stay cool this summer?

What Is Surge?

Surge is high amplitude, short duration electrical fluctuation which can cause harm to electric, electromechanical and electronic equipment, basically anything connected to the electrical box in your home.  Surge can be caused by lightning and storms, power outages, large appliances kicking on and other natural phenomena.

A Surge Protector Is

A box or unit designed to provide consistent power flow to anything electrical including your Air Conditioning System  even in the event of incoming surges, bounce surges from in rush current, outdoor moisture conduction from local lightening, or transient surges which are most common caused by other major appliances and electrical devices in our homes.

Different Types Of Surge Protection for A/C Systems

There are whole house surge protectors, which cover everything electrical in general.  However, this does not protect everything sufficiently and especially in regards to the one primary electrical unit placed outside in the elements, separate from the home itself, your Air Conditioning System.  There are specific Surge Protectors that can be installed at the Air Conditioner to protect the largest electrical unit at your home, well worth considering if staying cool in the hot summers in the valley of the sun is on your list of things that are important.

Why A Surge Protector just for Your Air Conditioning System?

The Air Conditioning Unit is outside in the elements it is more prone to and has an increased probability of being affected by storms.  In addition the A/C Unit pulls such a large pull as it starts up it is more likely to not only cause surges but more likely to be adversely affected by surges.   Surge Protectors installed specifically for the Air Conditioning System protects it from electrical surges caused by lightening, outages, hurricanes and any other natural events.

Insurance/Assurance, Are You Protected?

Do you have a whole home surge protection?  If not, you are leaving every electrical, electromagnetic and electronic device in your home at risk of being destroyed by surge.  Do you have an Air conditioner specific Surge Protector?  If not, your greatest asset during the summer months at risk of being put out of commission and leaving you and your family and business sweating and running elsewhere to be safe from the sweltering heat of the Arizona Desert.

Enjoying the Assurance Plan

Insurance only protects you in the event something went wrong and you need to have it fixed.  Assurance is the protection that prevents anything going wrong in the first place.  Invest in surge protection and invest in peace of mind, the best plan you can have in regards to your Air Conditioning Units in Phoenix in the valley of the sun.

Air Conditioning Crane Falls on Home in Phoenix Arizona

Air Conditioning Crane Phoenix Arizona

air conditioning phoenix

Phoenix AZ –News crews report today about a phoenix air conditioning crane  falling  on a homes roof, while a ac company was trying to install a new unit.  The home owners whose names are reported to be  Gabriel and Gloria Escamillio,  they have lived at that location for more than 30 years.  In a older neighborhood as you look around most surrounding air conditioning’s have already been replaced with out incident . This just a case of  a freak accident. With a large hole now in their home. The fire marshal has made it clear that no one may enter the home until a structural engineer is able to to inspect the home.  They will be staying with friends till repairs can be made.

It was a problem with the crane that actually caused the accident, one of the joint connections of the crane’s boom had failed causing the air conditioning unit to come crashing on to the Escamillio’s roof top.  Smiley crane was the crane performing the ac lift. Normally crane companies carry insurance for accidents like this. All crane companies inspect their crane’s before leaving the yard for the day. For common problems with air conditioning cranes their is a alarm the sounds. This seems like just something snapped and could not have been prevented. Crane accidents are very rare in the air conditioning industry despite the frequency of use of cranes. The safety record is pretty remarkable.

The good news in the whole incident is that no one got injured . Luckily all the damage should be repairable, the only problem is securing the gaping whole in the roof before it rains. The weather forecast does call for rain later in the week. Hopefully it can be secured before rain hits to prevent further lost to the home, as if a hole in your roof isn’t bad enough water damage would be devastating.

What a good Phoenix air conditioning repair company should be.

Quality Air Conditioning Phoenix AZ

Quality air conditioning phoenix

Well the first thing I look for when dealing with  Phoenix Air conditioning repair company, well any company for that matter, is who can vouch for them. Whether it be a live person like a neighbor, a friend at work, a family member or who ever you may know. The second thing I try to look at is their reputation with organizations such as the BBB, The Arizona Registrar of Contractors, if they’re an APS and/ or SRP certified contractor and all other such organizations. If they are not a good air conditioning and heating company just this process alone should steer you away from them.

The next thing I look for is how they handle emergency situations. After all, don’t you think that should be a quality air conditioning company’s top priority? We at Air Care have built our business around this belief of fast same day service. The heating & cooling company you are looking for should offer same day repair service. I actually mean come out and perform repairs that same day not just advertise it and not practice it. They should be available to their customers 7 days a week all year long. There are many HVAC contractors in Phoenix Arizona who claim 7 day service but don’t answer their phones on the weekends. I say what a lie and a disgrace.  Another important factor is do they stick to what they say, for example: If the AC company says they will at your home between 12 and 2 pm. Do they arrive at that time? Do they call ahead to make sure your home? This is a really important indicator because if they can’t even get that rite what would you expect from the rest of their service.

Once the tech is at a customer’s home some of things you should expect to see are, a proper introduction and a announcement of where he’s from. He should be wearing proper attire with the company name clearly visible on his uniform. He should then properly diagnose what your air conditioner repair is. He should then clearly and accurately explain what the types of repairs are required. The technician should then go on to explain what the cost for the air conditioning repairs are. Then go over the payment options with customer to ensure the transaction will be completed.

The professional Phoenix air conditioning repair company’s tech should then proceed to complete the repairs. After the repairs are completed and the entire work area is cleaned, the tech should finish the repair with a proper temperature check of all vents in the home to ensure proper cooling is achieved. There should be a receipt explaining all repairs that were done and any additional items or service’s the may be needed or recommended.

Quality AC Repair Phoenix AZ

This will bring a end to the air conditioning repair and the customer should be feeling really good and satisfied at this point. The customer should feel their money for their repair was well spent. The customer should be more than willing to refer the quality air conditioning outfit to any one of their friend or family members.

This is the way Air Care Cooling & Heating LLC. conducts business and is the reason for being one of the highest rated phoenix air conditioning company’s around.
